  • Short bio: Simona Guglielmi obtained her PhD in Risk and Environmental, Territorial and Building Development with Thesis in Soil Mechanics at the Polytechnic University of Bari (Bari, Italy) in 2018. During her PhD, she was visiting student at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya – BarcelonaTech, Spain, and at the University of Newcastle, UK. After her PhD, she was Research Fellow at the Polytechnic University of Bari from 2018 to 2020 and then at the University of Naples Federico II from 2020 to 2021. She currently holds a postdoctoral position at the Scuola Superiore Meridionale within the Modeling and Engineering Risk and Complexity (MERC) research program.

Dr. Guglielmi’s research has focused on the hydro-mechanical behaviour of natural soils, in relation to their micro to meso-structural features and geological history, providing indications for constitutive modelling of structured soils. She has conducted research on natural slopes, addressing climate driven landslide mechanisms involving either clayey turbidites or pyroclastic deposits. She is currently doing research on landslide risk mitigation through bio-engineering solutions and the design of early warning systems.
